Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Kleen* MCT412
- Product Type: Membrane cleaner
- Formulation: High pH, powdered
Description
Kleen MCT412 is a specially formulated membrane cleaner designed to remove organic materials, silt, and other particulate deposits from reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes. It is effective in eliminating biological slime and provides enhanced performance at elevated temperatures. The formulation is low-foam and buffered to maintain an effective pH over a range of dilutions. It is intended for use when traditional cleaning products have not been completely effective and is proven safe for occasional use.
Applications
- Cleaning severely fouled membranes.
- Eliminating biological slime.
- Removing organics, silt, and particulate deposits.
Note: Do not use Kleen MCT412 on Cellulose Acetate Membranes. Optimum results are typically achieved when used in conjunction with a low pH Kleen MCT product. Consult your SUEZ representative for guidance on cleaning frequency.
Operating Conditions & Usage
- Solution pH: Approximately 11.5 to 12.0.
- Temperature: Enhanced performance at elevated temperatures. Contact your SUEZ representative for recommended levels if not provided by the membrane manufacturer.
- Circulation Flow Rate: As recommended by the membrane or system manufacturer. If not available, contact your SUEZ representative.
- Circulation Pressure: Less than 60 psig (4.1 bar). Pressure should be low enough to prevent permeate production during cleaning.
- Soak Period: May be necessary for optimum results depending on the nature of the fouling. Consult your SUEZ representative.
Feed Requirements
- Dilution: 1 pound (0.45 kg) of Kleen MCT412 per 5 gallons (19 L) of water.
- Water Source for Dilution: RO permeate or DI water.
General Cleaning Instructions
- Inspect and clean the cleaning tank, hoses, and install new cartridge filters.
- Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or DI water and start agitation.
- Slowly add Kleen MCT412 to the tank at the recommended dilution and mix thoroughly.
- Check and adjust solution temperature to the optimum level.
- Check and adjust solution pH to be between 11.5 and 12.0. Adjust pH upward with NaOH or other recommended chemical if too low, or downward with hydrochloric acid if too high.
- Circulate the solution through one stage at a time in the direction of feed flow for 30 minutes at the recommended flow rate and pressure.
- For heavy fouling, divert the first return flow (up to 15% of cleaning tank volume) to drain. Clean each stage separately.
- If the cleaning solution becomes turbid or discolored, or if pH or temperature moves out of the recommended range, prepare a fresh cleaning solution for each stage.
- Rinse the system with RO permeate before returning to service.
- Divert product water to drain until any residual cleaning solution is rinsed from the system when returning to service.
Materials Compatibility
- Use corrosion-resistant equipment, such as PVC, for storage and preparation.
- Pumping materials in contact with the diluted product should also be corrosion resistant.
