Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Kleen* MCT511E
- Product Type: High pH liquid formulation cleaner
Description and Use
Kleen MCT511E is a liquid cleaner designed for removing organics, silt, and particulate deposits from polysulfone, fluorocarbon, and all polyamide thin-film composite reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes. It is effective against oils and many other organic compounds, and can remove biological matter and slime. The product is buffered to maintain an effective pH over a range of dilutions and performs well at elevated temperatures. It has a low foam formulation and no adverse effects with repeated use. Kleen MCT511E is not a biocide.
This product is intended for off-line clean-in-place (CIP) procedures. Indications for cleaning include a significant decrease in normalized permeate flow, an increase in pressure drop, or an increase in normalized salt passage.
Typical Applications
- Compatible with polyamide thin-film composite membranes.
- Suitable for cleaning RO and UF membranes.
- Recommended for use in conjunction with Kleen* MCT882 and BioMate* MBC2881E for optimum results.
- DO NOT USE on cellulose acetate membranes.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Feed System: Use in conjunction with membrane cleaning equipment supplied by the membrane system manufacturer.
- Dilution: The recommended dilution is one pound (0.45 kg) of Kleen MCT511E per 5 gallons (19 L) of water (approximately one gallon [3.8 L] of Kleen MCT511E for each 50 gallons [189 L] of water).
- Materials Compatibility: Use corrosion-resistant equipment such as PVC for storage and preparation. Pumping materials should also be corrosion resistant.
General Cleaning Instructions
- Inspect and clean the cleaning tank, hoses, and install new cartridge filters.
- Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or DI water and activate the agitator or recirculation pump.
- Slowly add Kleen MCT511E to the cleaning tank at the recommended dilution (1 gal [3.8 L] product per 50 gal [189 L] water) and mix thoroughly.
- Check and adjust solution temperature to the optimum level. Contact SUEZ representative if manufacturer's recommendation is unavailable.
- Check and adjust solution pH to between 10 and 11.5, or as recommended by the membrane manufacturer. Adjust pH upwards with NaOH or downwards with hydrochloric acid if necessary.
- Circulate the solution through one stage at a time, in the direction of feed flow, for 30 minutes. Maintain the flow rate recommended by the membrane or system manufacturer. Pressure during cleaning should be less than 60 psig (4.2 kg/cm²), and no permeate should be produced. For heavily fouled systems, divert the first return flow (up to 15% of tank volume) to drain. Clean each stage separately.
- If the cleaning solution becomes turbid or discolored, or if pH or temperature move out of range, prepare a fresh cleaning solution for each stage.
- Rinse with RO permeate before returning the system to service.
- When returning the unit to service, divert product water to drain until any residual cleaning solution is rinsed from the system.
