Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: Novus AP1780
  • Product Type: High molecular weight, medium charge density, anionic powder polymer

Description and Use

Novus AP1780 is a powder polymer used as a flocculant or sludge conditioning aid to improve liquid-solids separation processes. It is characterized by producing a fast-settling floc.

Typical Applications

  • Wastewater Treatment:
    • Settles metal oxide suspensions.
    • Treats precipitated hydrous metals in finishing wastes.
    • Reduces fines in scrubber thickener effluents.
    • Provides clean effluent from oily waste treatment processes.
    • Increases settling in chrome/cyanide destruct units and heavy metal separation systems.
    • Reduces oil in refinery and industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
  • Paper Industry:
    • Effective sludge conditioning agent for dewatering operations, improving filtrate clarity and solids capture.
  • Mining Industry:
    • Used in ore concentration processes to improve filter press efficiency.
  • Coal Industry:
    • Used in coal fine recovery processes to improve clarification and dewatering efficiency.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

  • Preparation:
    • Can be prepared in batch using a dry feeder or eductor, slowly adding powder to the vortex of an agitated tank.
    • Do not add water to the dry polymer.
    • Maximum practical solution concentration is 0.5% by weight.
    • Requires air or low speed (400 rpm) mechanical agitation for complete dissolution (1-2 hours).
    • Dissolution is accelerated with warm water not exceeding 65°C.
    • Avoid high shear agitation once the solution is made.
    • Dilute solutions should be used within 24 hours for maximum activity.
  • Dilution:
    • Further dilution to approximately 0.05% by weight (10:1 ratio) enhances performance in most applications.
    • For dewatering applications, dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
  • Transfer:
    • Use positive displacement pumps (e.g., gear or piston pumps).
    • Materials: Stainless steel, polyethylene, or PVC are recommended for liquid side components of tanks, pumps, and piping to minimize corrosion. Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical.
  • Dosage:
    • Proper treatment levels depend on the severity of the problem and site-specific conditions.
    • Product use should be in accordance with SUEZ established control procedures.
