Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Novus AP1782
- Product Type: High molecular weight, very high charge density, anionic powder polymer.
- Function: Flocculant or sludge conditioning aid.
Description and Use
Novus AP1782 is a powder polymer designed to enhance liquid-solids separation processes. It functions as a flocculant or sludge conditioning aid.
Typical Applications
- Wastewater Treatment: Settles metal oxide suspensions, precipitated hydrous metals in finishing wastes, and reduces fines in scrubber thickener effluents.
- Automotive Oily Waste: Provides a clean effluent.
- Heavy Metal Separation: Increases settling in chrome/cyanide destruct units and heavy metal separation systems.
- Refinery and Industrial Wastewater: Reduces oil by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
- Paper Industry: Effective sludge conditioning agent for dewatering operations, producing well-flocculated sludge for cleaner filtrates and improved solids capture.
- Mining Industries: Used in ore concentration processes to improve filter press efficiency.
- Coal Industry: Used in coal fine recovery processes to improve clarification and dewatering efficiency.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Preparation: Add powder slowly to the vortex of agitated water in a tank, using a dry feeder or eductor. Do not add water to dry polymer.
- Maximum Solution Concentration: 0.5% by weight.
- Agitation: Air or low-speed (400 rpm) mechanical agitation until complete dissolution (1-2 hours). Warm water (not exceeding 65°C) accelerates dissolution.
- Post-Dissolution: Avoid high shear agitation. Use dilute solutions within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Further Dilution: Recommended to approximately 0.05% by weight (10:1 dilution) for enhanced performance in most applications. For dewatering, dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Pumping: Use positive displacement pumps (e.g., gear or piston pumps) for transfer.
- Materials of Construction: Stainless steel, polyethylene, or PVC are recommended for liquid-side components of tanks, pumps, and piping. Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical.
- Treatment Levels: Depend on application severity and installation conditions. Use according to SUEZ control procedures.
