Description and Use

Novus AP1783P is a high molecular weight, non-ionic powder polymer used as a flocculant or sludge conditioning aid to improve liquid-solids separation processes.

Typical Applications

• Produces fast-settling floc, reducing carryover when used with inorganic or cationic polymeric coagulants.
• Settles metal oxide suspensions in wastewaters.
• Settles precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

• Preparation: Slowly add powder to the vortex of an agitated tank. Can be prepared using a dry feeder or an eductor. Do not add water to the dry polymer.
• Maximum practical stock solution concentration: 0.5% by weight.
• Dissolution: Complete dissolution in one to two hours with air or low-speed (400 rpm) mechanical agitation. Warm water (not exceeding 65°C) accelerates dissolution. Avoid high shear agitation after preparation.
• Solution Stability: Dilute solutions are recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
• Application Dilution:
  • General applications: Further dilution to approximately 0.05% by weight (10:1 dilution) enhances performance.
  • Dewatering applications: Dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
• Transfer: Use positive displacement pumps (e.g., gear or piston pumps).
• Material Compatibility: Stainless steel, polyethylene, or PVC are recommended for liquid side components of tanks, pumps, and piping to minimize corrosion. Mild steel is acceptable only where corrosion product contamination is not critical.
• Dosage: Proper treatment levels depend on factors like the severity of the problem and specific installation conditions. Use in accordance with SUEZ control procedures for a specific application.
