Summary
Product identification
- Product name: Novus* CE1647
- Product type: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and use
Novus CE1647 is a liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater. It is effective in sectors including organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminum, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Key benefits include:
- Increased efficiency of sludge dewatering operations.
- Improved suspended solids removal and effluent quality.
- Enhanced cost/performance.
- Production of shear-resistant floc.
- Easily fed liquid emulsion.
- Higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput.
Treatment and feeding recommendations
Initial use and daily operation
- Thoroughly agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use to ensure homogeneity.
- Remix the polymer for several minutes each day thereafter.
- Bulk system recirculation systems should be operated for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Avoid water contamination in open containers.
Stock solutions preparation
Two methods can be used: a continuous emulsion make-down unit or a batch system.
Continuous system:
- Concentration range for proper inversion: 0.5% to 1.0%.
- The resulting solution can be further reduced for application.
Batch system:
- Fill the solution preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed.
- Begin agitation and slowly add the premixed polymer through a disperser unit or directly into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
- Continue filling the tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Transfer the stock solution to a holding tank, further diluting to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
- Continuous feed is recommended.
Materials of construction
Neat polymer handling
- Suitable pumps: Appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cps.
- Suitable materials for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, and PE/PP.
- Suitable materials for pump components and hose linings: Viton and fluoro-silicon type rubbers.
- Materials for short-term installations: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber. These may not be satisfactory in permanent applications.
- Mild steel and copper alloys can be used if discoloration by corrosion products is acceptable.
Stock solutions handling
Stock solutions should be handled with the same materials of construction. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
Bulk tank storage
Should include a desiccant and recirculation system. Tanks should be installed according to standard instructions.
General properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.
Packaging information
Novus CE1647 is a liquid emulsion product available in various containers. Consult your SUEZ representative for delivery and packaging alternatives.
Storage and handling
- Storage temperature: 4 to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
- Bulk containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variation.
- Neat polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically to avoid product separation. Recirculate one container volume per day.
- Shelf life: Six months recommended.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery.
- Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: Contain, absorb on inert material, and dispose of as solid waste before flushing with water.
- In wet areas: Use sand, grit, or other suitable material for traction.
