Summary
Product identification
- Product name: Novus CE2655
- Description: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and use
Novus CE2655 is a liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering within an industrial program. It aims to improve suspended solids removal, effluent quality, and sludge dewatering efficiency by producing shear-resistant floc. Benefits include higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent. It functions effectively as a settling aid in wastewater clarification and thickening systems, forming large, faster-settling agglomerates for higher quality effluents, especially in high-shear applications such as centrifuges.
Treatment and feeding requirements
Preparation and handling
- Thoroughly agitate neat product with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use to ensure homogeneity.
- Remix daily for several minutes. Bulk system recirculation systems should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Avoid water contamination in open containers.
Solution preparation
- Continuous system: Concentration range for proper inversion is 0.5% to 1.0%. Resultant solution can be further reduced for application.
- Batch system:
- Fill preparation tank with water, close to final volume, begin agitation.
- Slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser unit or into the vortex.
- DO NOT ADD WATER TO POLYMER.
- Continue filling to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes to complete activity development. Avoid high speed agitation.
- Transfer stock solution to a holding tank, further diluting to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
- Continuous feed is recommended.
Pumping neat polymer
- Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
Materials of construction
- Tanks, tubing, piping, pumps: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, rigid PVC.
- Pump components and hose linings: Viton, fluorosilicon type rubbers.
- Short-term installations (tubing): Flexible PVC (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, Neoprene rubber.
- Tolerable for corrosion product discoloration: Mild steel and copper alloys.
- Stock solutions: Handle with the same materials of construction.
- Metering: Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used.
- Bulk tank storage: Include desiccant and recirculation system. Consult SUEZ representative for bulk feed options.
General properties
Physical properties are shown on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available on request.
Packaging information
Available as a liquid emulsion in a variety of containers. Consult your SUEZ representative for delivery and packaging alternatives.
Storage and handling
- Storage temperature: 45 to 100°F (7 to 38°C).
- Protect from freezing.
- Bulk containers should be insulated to protect from extreme temperatures and variations.
- Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically to avoid separation. Recirculate one container volume per day.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed with copious amounts of water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed on inert material, disposed of as solid waste, and then flushed with water.
Safety precautions
A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed information is available on request.
