Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Novus* CE1657
- Description: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and Use
Novus CE1657 is a liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater. It is particularly effective in the organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminum, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Key Benefits:
- Increases efficiency of sludge dewatering operations
- Improves suspended solids removal and effluent quality
- Offers improved cost/performance
- Produces shear-resistant floc
- Is an easily fed liquid emulsion
- Results in higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput
Treatment and Feeding Recommendations
Initial Preparation
- Thoroughly agitate neat Novus CE1657 with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use to ensure homogeneity.
- Remix the polymer for several minutes daily. Bulk system recirculation should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Avoid water contamination in open containers.
Stock Solutions Preparation
- Continuous Emulsion Make Down Unit: Required concentration for inversion is 0.5% to 1.0%. Further dilute to an application-appropriate concentration.
- Batch System:
- Fill the solution preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed.
- Begin agitation and slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser or directly into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
- Continue filling with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Transfer the stock solution to a holding tank, further diluting to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
- Continuous feed is recommended.
Mechanical / Hydraulic
Pumping Neat Polymer
- Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cps.
Materials of Construction
- Satisfactory: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, PE/PP for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps.
- Pump Components/Hose Linings: Viton, fluoro-silicon type rubbers.
- Short-Term Installations: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, Neoprene rubber.
- Not Recommended for Permanent Applications: Flexible PVC tubing, Buna-N, Neoprene rubber.
- Use with Caution (Discoloration Tolerable): Mild steel, copper alloys.
Stock Solutions Handling
- Handle with the same materials of construction as neat polymer.
- Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
Bulk Tank Storage
- Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.
- Install according to standard tank installation instructions.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
- Bulk Container Protection: Insulate against extreme heat, cold, and temperature variation.
- Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically (one container volume per day) to avoid product separation.
- Shelf Life: Six months recommended.
- Spill Cleanup:
- Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: Contain and absorb on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water.
- In wet areas: Use sand, grit, or suitable material for traction.
