Treatment and Feeding Recommendations

Preparation

• Initial use: Agitate thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
• Daily: Remix the polymer for several minutes. Bulk system recirculation should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
• Contamination: Avoid water contamination from condensation or droplets in open containers.

Stock Solution Preparation

• Method: Continuous emulsion make down unit or batch system.
• Inversion Concentration: 0.5% to 1.0% in a continuous system.
• Batch System:
  1. Fill preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is immersed.
  2. Begin agitation and slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser unit or into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
  3. Continue filling with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
  4. Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) to complete activity development. Avoid high speed agitation.
• Holding Tank: Transfer stock solution to a holding tank.
• Application Dilution: Further dilute to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
• Feed Type: Continuous feed is recommended.

Mechanical/Hydraulic

• Neat Polymer Handling: Use appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cPs.
• Materials of Construction (Neat Polymer & Stock Solutions):
  • Satisfactory: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, PE/PP for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps.
  • Pump Components/Hose Linings: Viton, fluoro-silicon type rubbers.
  • Short-term Installations: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, Neoprene rubber (may not be satisfactory for permanent applications).
  • Use with Caution (Discoloration may occur): Mild steel, copper alloys.
• Bulk Tank Storage: Include a desiccant and recirculation system. Install according to standard tank installation instructions.

Storage and Handling

• Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
• Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
• Product Separation: Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically. Recirculate one container volume per day.
• Shelf Life: Six months recommended.
• Spills:
  • Spilled polymer is very slippery; take precautions.
  • Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
  • Large spills: Contain, absorb on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water.
  • Wet areas: Use sand, grit, or suitable material for traction.
