Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE1682
  • Product Type: Cationic emulsion polymer

Description and Use

Novus CE1682 is a liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater. It is effective in industries including organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminum, food, and pharmaceutical. Key benefits include increased efficiency of sludge dewatering operations, improved suspended solids removal, higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput. It produces shear-resistant floc and is an easily fed liquid emulsion.

Treatment and Feeding Recommendations

  • Initial Agitation: Thoroughly agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use. Remix daily for several minutes. Bulk systems require 30 to 60 minutes of daily recirculation.
  • Preparation: Can be prepared using a continuous emulsion make-down unit or a batch system.
    • Continuous System: Required concentration for inversion is 0.5% to 1.0%. The resulting solution can be further diluted for application.
    • Batch System (Stock Solutions):
      • Add water to the solution preparation tank until the agitator blade is immersed.
      • Begin agitation and slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser or into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
      • Fill the tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
      • Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) for activation. Avoid high-speed agitation.
      • Transfer stock solution to a holding tank, further diluting to approximately 0.2% before application.
      • Continuous feed is recommended.

Handling and Materials

  • Pumps: Neat Novus CE1682 can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cps. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can meter the solution.
  • Materials of Construction:
    • Satisfactory: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, PE/PP for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluoro-silicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
    • Short-term installations: Flexible PVC tubing (Tygon), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber.
    • Use with caution (discoloration possible): Mild steel and copper alloys.
    • Stock solutions should be handled with the same materials.
  • Bulk Tank Storage: Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.

General Properties

Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Packaging Information

Available as a liquid emulsion in various containers. Consult SUEZ representative for details.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures of 4°C to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
  • Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
  • Product Separation: Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically. Recirculate one container volume per day.
  • Shelf Life: Recommended shelf life is six months.
  • Spills: Spilled polymer is slippery. Small spills can be washed with water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed, disposed of as solid waste, and then flushed. Use sand or grit for traction in wet areas.

Safety Precautions

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is available upon request.
