Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: Novus* CE1683
- Product Type: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and Use
Novus CE1683 is a liquid, high molecular weight, low-to-medium charge density cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation and sludge dewatering applications in industrial wastewater. It is particularly effective in the organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminium, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
Benefits include:
- Increases efficiency of sludge dewatering operations.
- Improves suspended solids removal operations and effluent quality.
- Higher solids capture.
- Drier cake.
- Cleaner effluent.
- Increased throughput.
- Improved cost/performance.
- Easily fed liquid emulsion.
Treatment and Feeding Recommendations
Preparation
- Initial Use: Agitate thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
- Daily: Remix the polymer for several minutes. Bulk system recirculation systems should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Contamination Avoidance: Prevent water contamination from condensation or rain in open containers.
Stock Solutions Preparation
- Method: Can be prepared using a continuous emulsion make-down unit or a batch system.
- Concentration for Inversion: 0.5% to 1.0% in a continuous system.
- Batch System:
- Fill the solution preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed.
- Begin agitating and slowly add the premixed polymer (do not add water to polymer).
- Continue filling the tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Transfer the stock solution to a holding tank.
- Further dilute to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
- Feed Recommendation: Continuous feed is recommended.
Pumping and Materials of Construction
- Neat Polymer (viscosities up to ~1500 cps): Use appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps.
- Suitable Materials: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, PE/PP for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluoro-silicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
- Short-Term Use Materials: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber.
- Materials to Avoid (unless discoloration is acceptable): Mild steel and copper alloys.
- Stock Solutions: Handle with the same materials of construction as neat polymer.
- Metering: Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used.
Bulk Tank Storage
- Include a desiccant and recirculation system.
- Install according to standard tank installation instructions.
General Properties

Packaging Information
Novus CE1683 is a liquid emulsion product available in a variety of containers.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: 4°C to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
- Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
- Product Separation: Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically. Recirculate one container volume per day.
- Shelf Life: Six months.
- Spill Cleanup:
- Spilled polymer is very slippery; take precautions.
- Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: Contain, absorb on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water. Use sand or grit in wet areas for traction.
