Summary
Product identification
Novus* CE1684 is a cationic emulsion polymer.
Description and Use
Novus CE1684 is a liquid, high molecular weight, medium charge density cationic emulsion polymer. It is designed for solid/liquid separation and sludge dewatering applications in industrial wastewater.
This product is effective in the following industries:
- Organic chemical
- Oil refining
- Steel
- Aluminium
- Food
- Pharmaceutical
Benefits include higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput.
Treatment and Feeding Recommendations
Preparation
- Initial Use: Agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
- Daily: Remix for several minutes. Bulk system recirculation should be operated for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Avoid water contamination in open containers.
Stock Solutions Preparation
- Make-down Concentration: 0.5% to 1.0% for inversion.
- Preparation Tank: Fill with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed. Begin agitation and slowly add the premixed polymer. Do not add water to polymer.
- Mixing: Continue filling with water to achieve 0.5% to 1.0% solution. Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Holding Tank: Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and dilute further to approximately 0.2% before application.
- Feed Type: Continuous feed is recommended.
Mechanical / Hydraulic
- Pumps: Neat Novus CE1684 can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cps. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used to meter the solution.
- Materials of Construction:
- Satisfactory: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, PE/PP for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps.
- Pump components and hose linings: Viton, fluoro-silicon type rubbers.
- Short-term installations: Flexible PVC tubing (Tygon), Buna-N, Neoprene rubber.
- Mild steel and copper alloys: Use only if discoloration is tolerable.
- Bulk Tank Storage: Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.
General Properties
Physical properties are available on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Packaging Information
Novus CE1684 is a liquid emulsion product available in a variety of containers.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C. Protect from freezing.
- Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
- Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically (one container volume per day) to avoid product separation.
- Shelf Life: Six months.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Wash small spills with copious amounts of water. Contain and absorb large spills on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water. Use sand or grit for traction in wet areas.
