Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE1685
  • Description: Cationic emulsion polymer, high molecular weight, high charge density linear copolymer.
  • Application: Solid/liquid separation and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater applications.

Description and Use

Novus CE1685 is a liquid, high molecular weight, high charge density cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation and sludge dewatering. It is effective in industries including:

  • Organic chemical
  • Oil refining
  • Steel
  • Aluminum
  • Food
  • Pharmaceutical

Benefits include higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput.

Treatment and Feeding Recommendations

Preparation

  • Initial Agitation: Agitate thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
  • Daily Remixing: Remix the polymer for several minutes each day. Bulk system recirculation should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Contamination Avoidance: Avoid water contamination from condensation or droplets in open containers.

Make-down and Dilution

  • Continuous System: Required concentration for proper inversion is 0.5% to 1.0%.
  • Batch System (Stock Solutions):
    • Prepare stock solutions in a solution preparation tank.
    • Add premixed polymer to water with agitation, do not add water to polymer.
    • Achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
    • Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
    • Transfer to a holding tank and dilute further to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
  • Feed: Continuous feed is recommended.

Mechanical / Hydraulic

Pumping

  • Neat Polymer: Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 1500 cps.
  • Stock Solutions: Positive displacement pumps such as gear or piston pumps can be used.

Materials of Construction

  • Tanks, Tubing, Piping, Pumps: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, and PE/PP are satisfactory.
  • Pump Components and Hose Linings: Viton and fluoro-silicon type rubbers.
  • Short-term Installations: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber may be suitable.
  • Less Preferred Materials: Mild steel and copper alloys may be used if discoloration from corrosion products is acceptable. Stock solutions should use the same materials.

Storage

  • Bulk Tank Storage: Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.

General Properties

Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available on request.

Packaging Information

Novus CE1685 is a liquid emulsion, available in various containers. Consult a SUEZ representative for alternatives.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C. Protect from freezing and extreme temperature variations.
  • Shelf Life: Six months recommended.
  • Handling: Neat polymer requires periodic recirculation or mixing to prevent separation (one container volume per day). Spilled polymer is slippery; use precautions.
  • Spill Cleanup:
    • Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
    • Large spills: Contain, absorb with inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water. Use sand or grit for traction in wet areas.

Safety Precautions

Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety information.
