Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Novus* CE2654
- Product Type: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and Use
Novus CE2654 is a liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer used in solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. It is designed to function in a total industrial program.
Key benefits include:
- Increases efficiency of sludge dewatering operations.
- Improves suspended solids removal operations and effluent quality.
- Produces shear-resistant floc.
- Results in higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent in sludge dewatering.
- Acts as a settling aid in wastewater clarification and thickening systems, producing higher quality effluents due to faster settling agglomerates.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Initial Use: Agitate thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
- Daily Use: Remix the polymer for several minutes each day. Bulk system recirculation should be operated for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Water Contamination: Avoid water contamination in open containers.
- Stock Solution Preparation:
- Concentration: 0.5% to 1.0% for proper inversion.
- Procedure: Fill solution preparation tank with water, begin agitation, and slowly add premixed polymer. DO NOT ADD WATER TO POLYMER. Continue filling with water to achieve the 0.5% to 1.0% solution. Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Dilution for Application: Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and further dilute to approximately 0.2% before the point of application. Continuous feed is recommended.
- Makedown Systems: Can be prepared using a continuous emulsion makedown unit or a batch system.
Mechanical / Hydraulic
- Neat Polymer Handling: Use gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
- Suitable Materials: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
- Limited Use Materials: Flexible PVC tubing, Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber for short-term installations. Mild steel and copper alloys if discoloration from corrosion products is tolerable.
- Stock Solution Handling: Use the same materials of construction as for neat polymer. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used.
- Bulk Tank Storage: Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.
Storage and Handling
- Temperature: Store between 45 to 100°F (7 to 38°C). Protect from freezing.
- Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
- Product Separation: Recirculate or mix neat polymer periodically to avoid separation. Recirculate one container volume per day.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed down with water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed on inert material, and disposed of as solid waste before flushing with water.
