Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE2654E
  • Description: A liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer.

Use and applications

Novus CE2654E is designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater. It is particularly effective for dewatering biological (secondary) wastewater sludges in high-shear equipment such as centrifuges and belt presses.

Benefits:

  • Higher solids capture
  • Drier cake
  • Cleaner effluent
  • Increased throughput

Industries:

  • Organic chemical
  • Oil refining
  • Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Food
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Paper

Treatment and feeding requirements

Preparation

  • Initial Agitation: Agitate thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity before initial use.
  • Daily Agitation: Remix for several minutes each day. Bulk system recirculation systems should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Water Contamination: Avoid water contamination in open containers.

Make-down

Novus CE2654E can be prepared using a continuous emulsion make-down unit or a batch system.

  • Continuous System: Proper inversion concentration range is 0.5% to 1.0%. The solution can be further reduced for application after successful inversion.
  • Batch System:
    • Fill the solution preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed.
    • Begin agitating and slowly add the premixed polymer through a disperser unit or into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
    • Continue filling the tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
    • Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
    • Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and dilute further to approximately 0.2% before the point of application. Continuous feed is recommended.

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Neat Polymer Handling: Use appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
  • Materials of Construction:
    • Satisfactory: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
    • Short-term only: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon*), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber.
    • Use with caution (discoloration): Mild steel and copper alloys.
  • Stock Solution Handling: Use the same materials of construction. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
  • Bulk Storage: Include a desiccant and recirculation system. Install according to standard instructions.

Storage and handling

  • Storage Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures of 4 to 32°C (39 to 89°F). Protect from freezing.
  • Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
  • Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically to avoid product separation. Recirculate one container volume per day.
  • Shelf Life: Recommended shelf life is six months.
  • Spills: Spilled polymer is slippery. Small spills can be washed with water. Contain and absorb large spills on inert material for disposal as solid waste, then flush with water. Use sand, grit, or similar material in wet areas for traction.
