Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE2655E
  • Product Type: Liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer

Description and Use

Novus CE2655E is a structured copolymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering in industrial wastewater.

Typical Applications

  • Effective in dewatering biological (secondary) wastewater sludges.
  • Suitable for high shear applications such as centrifuges and belt presses.
  • Provides benefits including higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput.
  • Effective in dewatering wastes in the organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminium, food, pharmaceutical, and paper industries.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Preparation and Handling

  • Prior to initial use, agitate thoroughly for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
  • Remix daily for several minutes; bulk system recirculation should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Avoid water contamination in open containers.

Stock Solutions Preparation

  • Continuous System Make-down:
    • Concentration range for proper inversion: 0.5% to 1.0%.
    • Further dilute resultant solution to application concentration.
  • Batch System Preparation:
    • Add polymer to water (do not add water to polymer).
    • Achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
    • Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes to complete activity development. Avoid high speed agitation.
    • Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and dilute to approximately 0.2% before the point of application.
  • Continuous feed is recommended.

Pumping and Materials of Construction

  • Neat Polymer: Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
    • Suitable materials: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, rigid PVC.
    • Pump components and hose linings: Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers.
    • Short-term installations: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon*), Buna-N, Neoprene rubber.
    • Mild steel and copper alloys may cause discoloration.
  • Stock Solutions: Should be handled with the same materials. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C (39 to 89°F). Protect from freezing.
  • Bulk containers should be insulated to protect from extreme temperatures.
  • Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically (one container volume per day) to avoid product separation.
  • Shelf Life: Six months recommended.
  • Spill Cleanup: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed with copious amounts of water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed on inert material, disposed of as solid waste, and then flushed with water. Use sand or grit in wet areas for traction.

General Properties
