Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE2657
  • Product Type: Liquid high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer

Description and use

Novus CE2657 is a liquid cationic emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. It is intended for use within a total SUEZ treatment program.

Typical applications

This product is effective in sludge dewatering operations, contributing to higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent. It performs well in high shear systems like centrifuges and belt presses. As a settling aid in wastewater clarification and thickening systems, Novus CE2657 helps reduce effluent suspended solids by forming large, fast-settling agglomerates. It is particularly suited for primary and secondary solids settling, thickening, and sludge dewatering in the paper industry.

Treatment and feeding requirements

Preparation

  • Initial Mixing: Agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use.
  • Daily Mixing: Remix for several minutes daily, with bulk system agitators or recirculation pumps operated for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Water Contamination: Avoid water contamination from condensation or rain in open containers.

Stock Solution Preparation

  1. Fill the solution preparation tank approximately 1/3 full of water, ensuring the agitator blade is covered.
  2. Begin agitation and slowly add the premixed polymer through a disperser unit or into the vortex.
  3. Fill the tank with water to achieve a 0.5 to 1 % solution.
  4. Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes. Avoid high-speed agitation to prevent polymer degradation.
  5. Transfer the stock solution to a holding tank.
  6. Further dilute to 0.2 % before the point of application. Continuous feed is recommended.

Pumping and Materials

  • Neat Polymer: Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
  • Suitable Materials: Type 304 stainless steel, polyethylene, and rigid PVC are satisfactory for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluorosilicon rubbers are suitable for pump components and hose linings. Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon*), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber may be used for short-term installations. Mild steel and copper alloys may cause discoloration.
  • Stock Solutions: Handle with the same materials of construction. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
  • Bulk Storage: Tanks should include a desiccant and an agitator or recirculation system, installed per SUEZ standard instructions.

General properties

Physical properties are detailed on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.

Packaging information

Novus CE2657 is available in various customized containers and delivery methods. Contact your SUEZ representative for details.

Storage and handling

  • Storage Temperature: Moderate temperatures (4-32 °C).
  • Protection: Protect from freezing and rapid or repeated temperature changes.
  • Shelf Life: Use within six months for maximum activity.
  • Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover spills with an inert absorbent material, sweep up, and place in a waste disposal container. Flush the area with water. Use sand, grit, or similar material in wet areas for traction.

Safety precautions

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed product information is available upon request.
