Summary
Product identification
Novus* CE2672 is a liquid, high molecular weight, cationic emulsion polymer.
Description and use
Novus CE2672 is designed for liquid/solids separation and sludge dewatering operations, particularly for industrial wastewaters and sludges. It is intended for use within a total SUEZ treatment program. The product can enhance clarified wastewater quality and reduce the environmental impact of contaminants.
In sludge dewatering, Novus CE2672 aims to improve:
- Released water clarity
- Sludge cake dryness
- Sludge processing rate
It is noted as particularly effective for paper industry wastewaters and sludges.
Treatment and feeding requirements
Preparation and agitation
- Prior to initial use, Novus CE2672 requires thorough agitation (30-60 minutes with a drum mixer or recirculating pump) to ensure homogeneity.
- Daily remixing for several minutes is recommended for bulk mixing or recirculation systems.
- Avoid water contamination in open containers.
Solution preparation
- Novus CE2672 can be prepared using a continuous emulsion makedown unit or a batch system.
- To prepare stock solutions:
- Fill the solution preparation tank approximately one-third full of water.
- Begin agitation and slowly add the premixed polymer.
- Fill the tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix for an additional 10-20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) until homogeneous.
- Avoid high-speed agitation to prevent polymer degradation.
- For sludge dewatering applications, a secondary dilution to 0.1% before application is recommended.
Pumping and materials of construction
- Neat Novus CE2672 can be handled by appropriately-sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2,500 cps.
- Satisfactory materials for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps include:
- Type 304 stainless steel
- High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
- Rigid PVC
- Pump components and hose linings can be made from Viton and Teflon.
- Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon) may be suitable for short-term installations only.
- Mild steel and copper alloys should be avoided due to potential mild corrosion.
- Stock solutions should be handled with similar materials. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
Storage
- Bulk tank storage requires a mixing or recirculation system, with daily mixing to maintain homogeneity.
- Install bulk tanks to prevent accidental water contamination, which can cause gelling.
- Insulate tanks to prevent condensation when ambient temperatures are cool.
General properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.
Packaging information
Novus CE2672 is a liquid emulsion product. Consult your SUEZ representative for packaging and delivery options.
Storage and handling
- Store at moderate temperatures: 40 to 90°F (4 to 32°C).
- Protect from freezing and rapid or repeated temperature changes.
- Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover spills with inert, absorbent material, sweep up, and place in a waste disposal container. Flush the area with water, and use sand or grit for traction if the wet area remains slippery.
Safety precautions
A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed safety information is available upon request.
