Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Novus* CE2680
- Product Type: Cationic emulsion polymer
Description and Use
Novus CE2680 is a liquid, high molecular weight, cationic emulsion polymer designed for liquid/solids separation and sludge dewatering applications. It is intended for use in industrial wastewaters and sludges, particularly effective in the paper industry. When applied correctly, it aims to improve clarified wastewater quality, reduce environmental impact, enhance sludge cake dryness, and increase sludge processing rates.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Initial Agitation: Mix thoroughly with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes before initial use.
- Daily Mixing: Remix for several minutes each day thereafter. Bulk mixing or recirculation systems require 30 to 60 minutes of daily operation.
- Preparation: Can be prepared using a continuous emulsion makedown unit or a batch system.
- Fill solution preparation tank approximately one-third full of water.
- Begin agitation and slowly add the premixed polymer.
- Fill tank with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) until homogeneous. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Secondary Dilution (Sludge Dewatering): A secondary dilution to 0.1% before the point of application is recommended.
- Pumping: Neat Novus CE2680 can be handled with gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2,500 cps. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can meter stock solutions.
- Materials of Construction:
- Satisfactory: Type 304 stainless steel, high-density polyethylene, rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps.
- Pump components and hose linings: Viton, Teflon.
- Avoid: Mild steel and copper alloys due to potential corrosion.
- Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon) is suitable for short-term installations only.
- Storage: Bulk tank storage requires a mixing or recirculation system; mix daily. Ensure bulk tanks prevent accidental water contamination to avoid product gelling.
General Properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.
Packaging Information
Novus CE2680 is supplied as a liquid emulsion. Consult your SUEZ representative for packaging and delivery options.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures between 40 to 90°F (4 to 32°C).
- Protection: Protect from freezing and rapid or repeated temperature changes that may cause condensation.
- Spill Response: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover with an inert absorbent material, sweep up, and place in a waste disposal container. Flush the area with water, and use sand or grit for traction on wet surfaces.
Safety Precautions
A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed safety information is available upon request.
