Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: Novus* CE2680E
  • Product Type: Liquid, high charge density, very high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer.

Description and Use

Novus CE2680E is a liquid polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. It is intended for use within a total SUEZ treatment program.

Typical Applications

This product is effective in sludge dewatering operations, leading to higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent. It can also be used as a settling aid in wastewater clarification and thickening systems, promoting the formation of large, fast-settling agglomerates for higher quality effluents. Novus CE2680E is particularly suited for secondary solids settling, thickening, and sludge dewatering in industries such as organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminum, food, and paper.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

  • Initial Use: Agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
  • Daily Use: Remix the polymer for several minutes each day. Bulk system agitators or recirculation pumps should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Contamination Avoidance: Prevent water contamination from condensation or droplets in open containers.
  • Solution Preparation:
    • Prepare stock solutions using a continuous emulsion makedown unit or a batch system.
    • Add premixed polymer to water in a solution preparation tank with agitation until the agitator blade is covered.
    • Continue filling to achieve a 0.5% solution.
    • Mix at low speed (350 rpm) for an additional 10 to 20 minutes. High speed agitation should be avoided.
    • Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and further dilute to 0.2% before the point of application.
    • Continuous feed is recommended.
  • Material Handling (Neat Polymer):
    • Suitable pumps: Gear or diaphragm pumps for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
    • Suitable materials for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps: Type 304 stainless steel, polyethylene, and rigid PVC.
    • Suitable pump components and hose linings: Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers.
    • Short-term installations may use flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon*), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber, but these may not be satisfactory for permanent applications.
    • Mild steel and copper alloys may cause discoloration due to corrosion products.
  • Material Handling (Stock Solutions): Use the same materials of construction as for the neat polymer. Positive displacement pumps (e.g., gear or piston pumps) can be used for metering.
  • Bulk Storage: Include a desiccant and agitator or recirculation system. Install tanks according to SUEZ standard tank installation instructions.

General Properties

Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available on request.

Packaging Information

Available in various customized containers and delivery methods. Contact your SUEZ representative for details.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: Moderate temperatures (4-32 °C).
  • Protection: Protect from freezing and rapid or repeated changes in temperature to prevent condensation.
  • Shelf Life: Use within six months to ensure maximum activity.
  • Spill Management: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover spills with inert absorbent material, sweep up, and place in a waste disposal container before flushing the area with water. Use sand or grit in wet areas for traction.

Safety Precautions

A detailed Material Safety Data Sheet is available on request.
