Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: Novus* CE2695
- Description: A liquid, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer.
- Function: Used in solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. Designed for industrial wastewater applications.
Typical Applications
- Effectively dewaters sludge in high shear systems (e.g., centrifuges).
- Particularly suited for dewatering biological (secondary) wastewater sludges.
- Aids in achieving higher solids capture, drier cake, cleaner effluent, and increased throughput.
- Effective in dewatering wastes in the organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminium, food, pharmaceutical, and paper industries.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Initial Use: Thoroughly agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
- Daily Use: Remix the polymer for several minutes daily. Bulk system recirculation systems should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
- Contamination: Avoid water contamination from condensation or environmental sources in open containers.
- Preparation: Can be prepared using a continuous emulsion make-down unit or a batch system.
- Continuous System Make-down:
- Concentration range for proper inversion: 0.5% to 1.0%.
- After successful inversion, the solution can be further reduced for application.
- Stock Solutions Preparation (Batch System):
- Fill the preparation tank with water until the agitator blade is fully immersed.
- Begin agitating and slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser unit or into the vortex. Do not add water to polymer.
- Continue filling with water to achieve a 0.5% to 1.0% solution.
- Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm) to complete activity development. Avoid high-speed agitation.
- Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and further dilute to approximately 0.2% before application.
- Continuous feed is recommended.
- Neat Polymer Handling:
- Use appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cPs.
- Recommended materials: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel, Teflon, and rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps.
- Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
- Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon®), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber for short-term installations.
- Mild steel and copper alloys may cause discoloration from corrosion products.
- Stock Solution Handling: Use the same materials of construction as for neat polymer. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) are suitable for metering.
- Bulk Tank Storage: Should include a desiccant and recirculation system.
General Properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.
Packaging Information
Available in liquid emulsion form in various containers. Consult your SUEZ representative for details.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: 4 to 32°C (39 to 89°F). Protect from freezing.
- Frozen Product: Thaw completely and mix thoroughly before use.
- Bulk Containers: Insulate to protect from extreme heat, cold, and temperature variations.
- Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically (one container volume per day) to prevent separation.
- Shelf Life: Recommended shelf life is six months.
- Spill Handling: Spilled polymer is very slippery.
- Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: Contain, absorb on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water. Use sand, grit, or other suitable material for traction in wet areas.
Safety Precautions
