Summary
Product identification
PolyFloc AE1115P is an anionic, high molecular weight, polymeric flocculant designed for industrial water treatment programs.
Description and Use
PolyFloc AE1115P functions as a coagulant aid or flocculant in clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering processes. It is a liquid emulsion that aids in solids separation for both influent and effluent water treatment.
Key applications include:
- Settling lime precipitate in raw water lime/soda softeners.
- Removing iron oxide suspensions from steel industry wastewaters.
- Clarifying precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.
- Reducing fines in effluents from blast furnace, steel mill scale, and BOP scrubber thickeners.
- Providing a clean effluent from automotive oily waste treatment.
- Increasing settling in chrome/cyanide destruction units and heavy metal separation systems.
- Reducing oil in refinery and other industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
- Acting as a sludge dewatering aid, producing clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake.
This product is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60 for potable applications up to 3.5 mg/L.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
PolyFloc AE1115P must be dissolved in water before use.
- Make-down Concentration: Recommended initial concentration is 0.5% (range 0.3-1%).
- Mixing: Prepare in batch by slowly adding the polymer to the vortex of agitated water. Do not add water to neat polymer. Use low-speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation until dissolution is complete. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation after dissolution.
- Solution Shelf Life: Diluted solutions should be used within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Continuous Make-down: Continuous systems are available for more reliable results.
- Further Dilution: Diluting stock solutions to approximately 0.1% can enhance performance. For dewatering, diluting to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, educator, or gravity flow to a point of good mixing (not violent agitation). Pumps should be positive displacement gear or piston pumps.
Mechanical/Hydraulic
Liquid-side components of tanks, pumps, and piping can be constructed of stainless steel or most plastics, with the exception of LD polyethylene and polypropylene. Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical. Viton and Tygon rubbers are acceptable for pump components and hose linings.
Storage and Handling
- Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures of 45-100°F (7-38°C).
- Freezing: Protect from freezing. If frozen, thaw completely and mix thoroughly before use.
- Bulk Storage: Insulate and heat trace bulk containers if stored outdoors.
- Neat Polymer: Re-circulate or mix neat polymer periodically (one container volume per day) to prevent separation.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed with water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed, disposed of as solid waste, and then the area flushed with water.
