Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: PolyFloc AE1125
- Description: Anionic, high molecular weight flocculant
- Form: Liquid emulsion
Description and Use
PolyFloc AE1125 is a high charge density, high molecular weight, polymeric flocculant designed for industrial water treatment programs. It functions as a coagulant aid or flocculant in clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering processes for both influent and effluent water.
Key applications include:
- Improving solids separation in various industrial processes.
- Settling iron oxide suspensions from steel industry wastewater.
- Settling precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.
- Reducing fines in thickener effluents from blast furnace, steel mill scale, and BOP scrubbers.
- Benefiting influent settling basins.
- Providing clean effluent from automotive oily waste treatment.
- Increasing settling in chrome/cyanide destruction units and heavy metal separation systems.
- Reducing oil in refinery and other industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
- Acting as a sludge dewatering aid, producing clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
PolyFloc AE1125 must be dissolved in water before use.
- Preparation: Add polymer slowly to the vortex of agitated water in a batch tank. Do not add water to the neat polymer.
- Initial Concentration: Recommended 0.5 percent (range 0.3 to 1 percent).
- Agitation: Use low speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation until complete dissolution. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation once dissolved.
- Solution Stability: Diluted solutions are recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Continuous Make-down: Available for more reliable results.
- Further Dilution: Further dilution to approximately 0.1 percent enhances performance in most applications. For dewatering, dilution to approximately 0.25 percent may be more practical.
- Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity to a point of good mixing, but not violent agitation.
- Transfer Pumps: Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring solutions.
- Materials Compatibility: Liquid-side components can be stainless steel or most plastics (excluding LD polyethylene and polypropylene). Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical. Viton® rubber is acceptable for pump components and hose linings.
General Properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Packaging Information
Available as a liquid emulsion in various containers. Consult your SUEZ representative for alternatives.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: 45 to 100°F (7 to 38°C). Protect from freezing.
- Outdoor Storage: Bulk containers may require insulation and heat tracing.
- Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically (one container volume per day) to prevent separation.
- Spills: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed with water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed with inert material, disposed of as solid waste, and then flushed with water.
Safety Precautions
