Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: PolyFloc AE1138
- Description: High molecular weight flocculant
Description and use
PolyFloc AE1138 is a highly anionic charged, high molecular weight, polymeric flocculant. It is designed for industrial water and wastewater treatment programs as a coagulant aid or flocculant in clarification and sludge dewatering processes. It is a liquid emulsion intended for solids separation processes, particularly in effluent water treatment.
Key functions include:
- Clarification of wastewater
- Sludge dewatering
- Production of fast-settling floc
- Mitigation of bulking problems in clarifiers
- Cost-effective sludge conditioning for sludges with high anionic charge demand
- Production of clean filtrate, high solids capture, and drier cake
Treatment and feeding requirements
- PolyFloc AE1138 must be dissolved in water before use.
- Preparation: Add polymer slowly to the vortex of an agitated tank. Do not add water to the neat polymer.
- Recommended initial make-down solution concentration: 0.5 percent.
- Agitation: Low speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation is recommended until complete dissolution. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation once dissolved.
- Dilute solutions should be used within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Continuous make-down systems are available for more reliable results.
- Further dilution to approximately 0.1 percent enhances polymer performance in most applications.
- For dewatering applications, dilution to approximately 0.25 percent may be more practical.
- Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity to a point of good mixing without violent agitation.
- Transfer pumps should be positive displacement type (e.g., gear or piston pumps).
- Suitable materials for liquid-side components (tanks, pumps, piping): stainless steel, copper, brass, or plastics (excluding polyethylene and polypropylene).
- Mild steel construction is not recommended.
- Acceptable rubber materials for pump components and hose linings: Viton and Tygon.
General properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available on request.
Packaging information
PolyFloc AE1138 is a liquid emulsion available in various containers. Consult your SUEZ representative for delivery and packaging alternatives.
Storage and handling
- Storage Temperature: 45 to 95°F (7 to 35°C).
- Protect from freezing.
- Outdoor bulk containers may require insulation and heat tracing.
- Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically to prevent separation. Recirculate one container volume per day.
- Spilled polymer is very slippery.
- Small spills: Wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: Contain and absorb on inert material, dispose of as solid waste, then flush with water.
Safety precautions
An MSDS containing detailed product information is available on request.
