Summary

Product identification

PolyFloc AP1100 is an anionic, high molecular weight, polymeric flocculant. An NSF-certified version is available for potable applications.

Description and use

PolyFloc AP1100 functions as a coagulant aid or flocculant in clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering processes. It is a free-flowing powder designed for solids separation in influent and effluent water treatment.

Specific applications include:

  • Settling iron oxide suspensions from steel industry wastewaters.
  • Settling precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.
  • Reducing fines in blast furnace, steel mill scale, and BOP scrubber thickener effluents.
  • Providing clean effluent from automotive oily waste treatment processes.
  • Increasing settling in chrome/cyanide destruction units and heavy metal separation systems.
  • Reducing oil in refinery and other industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
  • As a sludge dewatering aid producing clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake in the steel industry and other markets.

Treatment and feeding requirements

PolyFloc AP1100 must be dissolved in water before use.

  • Preparation: Add powder slowly to the vortex of an agitated tank using a dry powder feeder or an eductor. Do not add water to the dry polymer.
  • Solution Concentration: Maximum practical stock solution concentration is 0.5% by weight.
  • Dissolution: Complete dissolution takes about one hour with air or low speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation. Dissolution is accelerated with warm water, not to exceed 150°F (65°C). Avoid high shear or excessive agitation once dissolved.
  • Solution Stability: Diluted solutions are recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
  • Application Dilution: Further dilution to approximately 0.05% by weight (10 to 1 ratio) enhances performance in most applications. For dewatering, diluting to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
  • Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity flow to a point of good mixing, but not violent agitation. High-speed mixing decreases polymer activity. Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring the solution.

Materials of construction

  • Liquid-side components (tanks, pumps, piping): Stainless steel or most plastics (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene). Mild steel is acceptable only if contamination by corrosion products is not critical.
  • Pump components and hose linings: Viton and Tygon rubbers are acceptable.

General properties

Physical properties are shown on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.

Packaging information

PolyFloc AP1100 is a dry powder available in bags and drums. Consult your SUEZ representative for delivery and packaging alternatives.

Storage and handling

  • Store under dry, low humidity conditions.
  • Seal opened containers before restorage.
  • Spilled polymer is very slippery; scoop and/or wipe up spills before flushing with copious amounts of water.

Safety precautions

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed information is available upon request.
