Summary

Product identification

PolyFloc AP1100P is an anionic, high molecular weight, polymeric flocculant.

Description and use

PolyFloc AP1100P is designed for use as a coagulant aid or flocculant in industrial water treatment programs, including clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering. It is NSF-certified for potable water applications up to 1 mg/L (ppm).

The product is a free-flowing powder used in solids separation processes for both influent and effluent water treatment. It helps produce fast-settling flocs, reduces carryover, and is effective in applications such as:

  • Settling iron oxide suspensions from steel industry wastewaters.
  • Settling precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.
  • Reducing fines in thickener effluents from blast furnace and steel mill scale.
  • Clarifying automotive oily waste treatment processes.
  • Increasing settling in chrome/cyanide destruction units and heavy metal separation systems.
  • Reducing oil in refinery and other industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
  • Sludge dewatering, producing clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake.

Treatment and feeding requirements

  • Dissolution: PolyFloc AP1100P must be dissolved in water before use. Add the powder slowly to the vortex of agitated water. Do not add water to the dry polymer.
  • Maximum solution concentration: 0.5% by weight.
  • Agitation: Air or low-speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation is required for approximately one hour until complete dissolution. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation after dissolution.
  • Water temperature: Warm water up to 150°F (65°C) can accelerate dissolution.
  • Solution life: Diluted solutions are recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
  • Further dilution: For most applications, a further dilution to approximately 0.05% by weight (10:1 ratio) enhances performance. For dewatering applications, diluting to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
  • Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity flow to a point of good mixing, but not violent agitation. Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring the solution.
  • Materials of construction: Liquid-side components can be stainless steel or most plastics (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene). Mild steel is acceptable if corrosion products are not critical. Viton and Tygon rubbers are suitable for pump components and hose linings.

General properties

Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available on request.

Packaging information

PolyFloc AP1100P is available as a dry powder in bags and drums. Consult your SUEZ representative for alternatives.

Storage and handling

  • Store under dry, low humidity conditions.
  • Seal opened containers before restorage.
  • Spilled polymer is very slippery. Scoop and/or wipe up spills before flushing with copious amounts of water.
