Summary
Product identification
PolyFloc AP1120P is an anionic, high molecular weight flocculant.
Description and use
PolyFloc AP1120P is an anionic, high charge density, high molecular weight polymeric flocculant designed for use in industrial treatment programs. It functions as a coagulant aid or flocculant in clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering processes.
- Cost-effective powder: Provides an economical solution for solids separation.
- Reduces floc carryover: Works with inorganic or cationic polymeric coagulants.
- Increases throughput.
- Approved for potable use: Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60 for use in potable applications up to 1 mg/L.
The product is a free-flowing powder suitable for influent and effluent water treatment. It is effective in settling iron oxide suspensions and precipitate hydrous metals, and for reducing fines in various industrial effluents. It also aids in protein removal, starch clarification, and oil reduction in wastewater by improving air flotation and API separator efficiencies. PolyFloc AP1120P is an excellent sludge dewatering aid, producing clean filtrate and a drier cake.
Treatment and feeding requirements
PolyFloc AP1120P must be dissolved in water before use.
- Preparation: Slowly add the powder to the vortex of agitated water in a tank, using a dry powder feeder or eductor. Do not add water to the dry polymer.
- Maximum solution concentration: 0.5% by weight.
- Dissolution: Complete dissolution takes approximately 1 hour with air or low-speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation. Warm water (not exceeding 150°F / 65°C) accelerates dissolution. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation after dissolution.
- Solution Use: Diluted solutions are recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Further Dilution: For enhanced performance in most applications, dilute stock solutions to approximately 0.05% by weight (10:1 ratio). For dewatering applications, a dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity to a point of good mixing (not violent agitation). High-speed mixing reduces polymer activity. Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring the solution.
- Materials of Construction:
- Liquid-side components: Stainless steel or most plastics (e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene). Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion products are not critical.
- Pump components and hose linings: Viton® and Tygon® rubbers are acceptable.
General properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Packaging information
PolyFloc AP1120P is available as a dry powder in bags and drums.
Storage and handling
- Store under dry, low humidity conditions.
- Seal opened containers before re-storage.
- Spilled polymer is very slippery. Scoop and/or wipe up spills before flushing with water.
