Summary
Product identification
PolyFloc CE1161P
Description and use
- Cationic, polymeric, low charge density, high molecular weight flocculant.
- Designed for industrial treatment programs as a coagulant aid or flocculant.
- Used in clarification, thickening, and sludge dewatering processes.
- NSF-certified for potable applications up to 3 mg/L (ppm).
- Liquid emulsion, cost-effective for solids separation in influent and effluent water treatment.
- Produces a fast-settling floc, reducing carryover in clarifiers.
- Effective at lower pH in conjunction with a coagulant in influent clarifiers and paper mill primary wastewater clarifiers.
- Provides cost-effective sludge conditioning for primary, oily, and paper industry sludges.
- Results in clean filtrate, high solids capture, and drier cake, leading to lower transportation and disposal costs.
Treatment and feeding requirements
- Must be dissolved in water before use.
- Prepare solution by slowly adding polymer to the vortex of an agitated tank; do not add water to neat polymer.
- Recommended initial makedown solution concentration: 0.5% (range 0.3 to 1%).
- Use low-speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation for complete dissolution.
- Avoid high shear or excessive agitation once dissolved.
- Diluted solutions recommended for use within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Continuous makedown systems are available for more reliable results.
- Further dilution to approximately 0.1% enhances performance in most applications.
- For dewatering applications, dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity flow to a point of good mixing (not violent agitation).
- High-speed mixing decreases polymer activity.
- Transfer pumps should be positive displacement gear or piston pumps.
- Liquid-side components: stainless steel or most plastics (except LD polyethylene and polypropylene). Mild steel acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical.
- Pump components and hose linings: Viton and Tygon rubbers are acceptable.
General properties
Physical properties are shown on the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Packaging information
Available in a variety of containers as a liquid emulsion product.
Storage and handling
- Store at moderate temperatures of 45 to 95°F (7 to 35°C).
- Protect from freezing. If frozen, thaw completely and mix thoroughly before use.
- Bulk containers should be insulated and heat traced if stored outdoors.
- Neat polymer should be recirculated or mixed periodically to avoid product separation (recirculate one container volume per day).
- Spilled polymer is very slippery.
- Small spills: wash down with copious amounts of water.
- Large spills: contain, absorb on inert material, dispose as solid waste, then flush with water.
