Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: PolyFloc* CE1163
- Product Type: high molecular weight flocculant
- Description: Cationic, polymeric, very high charge, high molecular weight flocculant. Supplied as a liquid emulsion.
Use and Applications
PolyFloc CE1163 is designed for industrial treatment programs as a coagulant aid or flocculant. It is effective in:
- Clarification processes
- Emulsion breaking, particularly for oily wastewater
- Sludge dewatering, especially biological and oily sludges
It produces a fast-settling floc, reduces carryover, and can mitigate bulking problems in secondary clarifiers. It offers strong emulsion-breaking properties beneficial for oily wastewater treatment units, including flotation units. For sludge conditioning, it results in a clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake, potentially lowering transportation and disposal costs.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Preparation: Must be dissolved in water before use. Do not add water to the neat polymer.
- Make-down Solution Concentration: Recommended initial concentration is 0.5% (range 0.3-1%).
- Agitation: Use low speed (350 rpm) mechanical agitation until complete dissolution. Avoid high shear or excessive agitation after dissolution.
- Solution Stability: Diluted solutions should be used within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Further Dilution: Further dilution to approximately 0.1% enhances performance in most applications. For dewatering, dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Feeding: Diluted product can be fed by pump, eductor, or gravity to a point of good mixing (not violent agitation). High-speed mixing decreases polymer activity.
- Transfer Pumps: Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring the solution.
- Materials of Construction:
- Acceptable: 316 stainless steel, most plastics (excluding LD polyethylene and polypropylene).
- Acceptable with caution: Mild steel and 304 stainless steel (if corrosion product contamination is not critical).
- Gaskets/Seals: Viton and Tygon rubbers are acceptable for pump components and hose linings.
General Properties
Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.
Packaging Information
PolyFloc CE1163 is a liquid emulsion product. Consult your SUEZ representative for delivery and packaging alternatives.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures between 45-95°F (7-35°C). Protect from freezing.
- Outdoor Storage: Bulk containers may require insulation and heat tracing if stored outdoors.
- Neat Polymer: Recirculate or mix periodically (one container volume per day) to prevent product separation.
- Spill Management: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed down with large amounts of water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed on inert material, disposed of as solid waste, and then flushed with water.
Safety Precautions
Refer to the MSDS for detailed safety information.
