Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: Spectrus* OX1225
- Product Type: microbiological control agent precursor
Description and use
Spectrus OX1225 is a liquid precursor used for the in situ generation of chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide is employed to control microbial populations in open evaporative and once-through cooling systems.
To generate chlorine dioxide, Spectrus OX1225 must be reacted with 25% - 36% Hydrochloric Acid.
Control of microbial populations is essential to prevent biofouling, which can reduce heat transfer efficiency, increase energy costs, cause microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), and lead to unscheduled shutdowns. Biofouling can also create an environment for Legionella bacteria proliferation.
Treatment and feeding requirements
Spectrus OX1225 must be reacted with 25% - 36% Hydrochloric Acid in a chlorine dioxide generator.
- 1 kilogramme of Spectrus OX1225 reacted with 1 kilogramme of 25% - 36% Hydrochloric Acid yields 160 grams of chlorine dioxide.
Proper treatment levels depend on factors such as system cleanliness, microbial species, nutrient concentration, temperature, and specific installation conditions. SUEZ establishes control procedures for specific applications.
Feed is controlled using a halogen test, with on-line monitoring available.
