Summary

Product identification

The Testomat 2000® is an online analysis unit for determining and monitoring water hardness, carbonate hardness, p-value, or minus m-value.

Performance specifications

  • Menu-driven operation and programming via a plain text display.
  • Determines residual hardness, total hardness, carbonate hardness, minus m-value, and p-value based on indicator selection.
  • Freely selectable hardness units: °dH, °f, ppm CaCO₃, mmol/l.
  • High measuring accuracy due to a precise piston-dosing pump.
  • Analysis initiation methods:
    • Automatic interval operation (Interval pause adjustable from 0 to 99 minutes)
    • External control
    • Dynamic start (Exhaustion dependent)
    • Volume controlled (water meter)
  • Two independent limit values with hysteresis (1, 2 or 3 bad analyses) and adjustable switch functions.
  • Monitoring of two measuring points (change-over via external solenoid valves).
  • Internal error documentation.
  • Programmable service address.
  • Programmable maintenance interval for maintenance requests.
  • Extended operating periods with a 500 ml indicator storage bottle.
  • Optional interfaces:
    • 0/4-20 mA or 0/2-10 V
    • RS 232 for a log printer
    • SD Card data logger

Indicators and Measuring Ranges

°f0.09 – 0.890.02
ppm CaCO₃0.89 – 8.930.2
mmol/l0.01 – 0.090.01
Carbonate hardness°dH0.5 – 5.00.5
°f0.90 – 8.960.9
ppm CaCO₃8.9 - 89.58.9
mmol/l0.18 – 1.790.18
Minus m-valuemmol/l0.05 – 0.500.01
p-valuemmol/l1 - 151
  • Values outside the measuring range are indicated by "<" (below) or ">" (above) the specified limits.
  • The device does not monitor dosage when TC indicators are used for carbonate hardness.

Application instructions

  • Operates within a pH range of 4 – 10.5 when determining total hardness.
  • Heavy metal ions (iron > 0.5 mg/l, copper > 0.1 mg/l, aluminum > 0.1 mg/l) may influence color reactions.
  • Incorrect evaluations may occur if the measuring water contains more than 20 mg/l CO₂.
  • Visual inspection at regular intervals is recommended for operational reliability.

Installation

Operating Limits

  • Water Pressure: 0.3 bar to 8 bar (factory setting is 1 to 8 bar). For 0.3 to 1 bar operation, a flow controller valve body must be removed.
  • Water Temperature: 10 °C to 40 °C. A cooler is recommended for temperatures above 40 °C.

Water Inlet

  • Uses a standard plug connector for plastic hoses 6/4 x 1.
  • Recommended maximum hose length: 5 m.
  • The branch line connection should be laid vertically upwards to prevent dirt ingress.
  • An opaque plastic hose is recommended.
  • For operation between 0.3 to 1 bar or with a booster pump, the valve body from the controller and filter housing must be removed. The pump should have a feeding capacity of 25 to 35 litres/hour.

Water Outlet

  • Requires an outlet hose with an internal diameter of 12 mm.
  • The hose must be laid without backwater development or siphoning effects.

Electrical Connections

  • Mains voltage: 24 V / 115 V / 230 V.
  • Connections for mains input, neutral conductor, and phase.
  • Switched mains output for consumers, max. 4 A.
  • Protective earth conductor connection (PE).
  • Protect against interference voltages using a mains filter and separate connecting cables from power cables.

Commissioning

  • Use only Heyl Testomat 2000® indicators.
  • Ensure the intake hose and transport hose are filled with indicator up to the measuring chamber.
  • The measuring chamber should fill within 2 to 6 seconds.

Functions of the operating and display elements

  • Mains Switch: To turn the instrument on or off.
  • Instrument Fuse: Protects the instrument and outputs against overloads.
  • Display: Shows operating statuses, measured values, limit values, error messages, and maintenance requests.
    • Limit value displays (red/green) indicate if limit values are reached/exceeded or fallen below.
    • Text display (4 lines) shows current results, statuses, and programming data.
    • Alarm indicator (red) for malfunctions/errors.
    • Maintenance indicator (yellow) for maintenance requests.
    • Status displays for active instrument components.
  • Operating Keys:
    • Manual key: Starts an analysis manually.
    • STANDBY key: Puts the instrument into standby mode.
    • Horn key: Acknowledges error and warning messages.
    • M key: Opens the programming menu.
    • i key: Calls up instrument information and settings.
  • Programming Keys (Cursor Block): Used for navigating menus, selecting functions, and entering data.

Password protection and basic program

A four-digit password, which is the current time in reverse order, is required to access the basic program for data entry and settings.

Entering basic program data

  • Indicator Type and Bottle Size: Select the indicator type and bottle size (e.g., 100ml or 500ml).
  • Mode of Operation: Choose between:
    • Time Controlled (set interval pause and flush times)
    • Volume Interval (set flow rate in litres)
    • Volume control / Time priority
    • Dynamics (filter capacity dependent control, set capacity, start/end intervals, and reset condition)
    • External Start
  • Display Unit: Select the desired unit for displayed values (°dH, °f, ppm CaCO₃, mmol/l).
  • Internal Flushing: Recommended for longer downtimes or analysis intervals to ensure representative samples. The flushing time affects the actual analysis interval.
