Summary

Product identification

Testomat ECO® is an online analysis instrument for the automatic determination and monitoring of residual total hardness (water hardness) in water with a pH level above 4.

Intended use

The instrument is designed for automatic determination and monitoring of residual total hardness in water with a pH above 4. The required measuring range is determined by indicator selection and user programming.

Operating limits

  • Water properties:
    • pH level above 4.
    • Heavy metal ions (iron above 0.5 mg/l, copper above 0.1 mg/l, aluminium above 0.1 mg/l) can influence color reaction.
    • CO₂ concentration above 20 mg/l may lead to erroneous evaluations.
  • Operating pressure: 0.3 to 8 bar. A modification is available for operation between 0.3 to 1 bar.
  • Measuring water temperature: 10 °C to 40 °C. For temperatures above 40 °C, a KCN type cooler should be installed.

Installation

  • Install in a location protected against moisture, humidity, condensation, and splash water.
  • Mount vertically and without mechanical stress, on a vibration-free site.
  • Water inlet hose should be as short as possible (max. 5 m).
  • Ensure sufficient space for opening the door.
  • Mounting holes are provided for wall or switch cabinet installation.
  • Water inlet connection should be directly after the water treatment plant and laid vertically upwards.
  • An opaque plastic hose (6/4 x 1) is used for water inlet.
  • Water outlet connection requires an outlet hose (internal diameter 12 mm) laid without backwater or siphoning.

Electrical

  • Power supply: Connect to the specified mains voltage (24 V / 115 V / 230 V) indicated on the rating plate.
  • Mains Filter: Recommended to protect against interference voltages.
  • Connecting cables: Keep as short as possible and install separately from power cables.
  • Relay outputs: Maximum electrical load capacity must not be exceeded (max. 4 A for mains output, max. 240 VAC, 4 A for limit value and alarm outputs).
  • Inputs: Signal inputs "Stop" and "Water meter" require volt-free contacts. Do not connect external voltages.

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Water inlet connection: Standard plug connector for plastic hoses 6/4 x 1.
  • Water outlet connection: Requires outlet hose with internal diameter 12 mm.
  • Indicator bottle: 500 ml capacity is standard.
  • Dosing pump: Precision piston-dosing pump.

Performance specifications

  • Measurement: Residual total hardness (water hardness).
  • pH range: Above 4.
  • Display: Plain text display for menu-driven operation.
  • Units: Freely selectable: °dH, °f, ppm CaCO₃, or mmol/l.
  • Indicator storage: 500 ml indicator bottle.
  • Analysis initiation:
    • Automatic interval operation (0-99 minutes interval pause).
    • Quantity-dependent via impulse water meter/turbine.
    • External analysis stop.
  • Limit values: Two independent limit values with hysteresis (1, 2, or 3 bad analyses) and settable switch functions (two neutral change-over contacts).
  • Outputs:
    • Fault message output (neutral change-over contact).
    • Current output 0/4 - 20 mA.
  • Valve block modification: Available for water with pH < 4.0 (Art. No. 40018).
