Feed Water

  • Main applications: Waste water transport, waste water management, drainage systems, waste water treatment plants, stormwater transport, recirculation, sludge treatment.
  • Fluids handled: Service water, grey water, waste water with faeces, waste water containing long fibres and solid substances, fluids containing gas, activated sludge, digested sludge, raw sludge.
  • Material suitability for fluids:
    • EN-GJL-250 grey cast iron (Material variant G): Suitable for neutral fluids which are only slightly aggressive and cause little wear. pH should be ≥ 6.5, sand content ≤ 0.5 g/l.
    • Duplex stainless steel (1.4517) (Material variant G1): Resistant to cavitation, has excellent strength. Offers excellent resistance to pitting corrosion for acidic waste water with high chloride content, seawater, brackish water. Good chemical resistance against waste water containing phosphorous and sulphuric acid (pH 1-12), brines, chemical waste water (pH 1-12), grey water and landfill leachate.
    • Wear-resistant white cast iron (EN-GJN-HB555 [XCR14]) (Material variants G2, GH): Suitable for highly abrasive fluids containing sand, ash or iron ore sinter. Has a Rockwell hardness of at least 54 HRC. pH should be ≥ 6.5.
  • Specific fluid recommendations:
    • Waste water with faeces: EN 12050, min. free passage of 40 mm.
    • Raw waste water (untreated): ATV recommends a free passage of 100 mm; min. free passage: 76 mm.
    • Abrasive municipal waste water (GH): Solids content < 5 g/l.
    • Water/sand mixture: up to 5 g/l (G2, GH); up to 0.5 g/l (G).
    • Sludges (Raw, Digested, Activated): Pumpable up to a dry substance content of 13% (D-max), 8% (F-max).
    • Fluids containing air and gas: Up to 8% (contact KSB for higher concentrations).
    • Industrial waste water containing aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, chloroform, methane, methylene chloride, oil, petrol, styrene, tetrachloroethylene: FKM elastomer seals and TEHSITE cable recommended.
    • Industrial waste water containing 10% of potassium hydroxide (KOH), 5% of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), ethylene chloride: FEP-FKM elastomer seals recommended.
