Summary
Product identification
The GIW® TBC is a high-head and high-flow pump designed for hydraulic transport applications. These are horizontal end suction centrifugal pumps built for maximum resistance to solids and capable of withstanding very high pressures.
Operating limits
- Discharge: 18 to 30 in (450 to 760 mm)
- Flow rates: up to 80,000 gpm (18,200 m³/h)
- Total head: up to 300 ft (90 m)
- Pressure rating: up to 533 psi (up to 37 bar)
- Power rating: 10,000 hp (7450 kW)
Feed water
The pumps are designed for severe duties involving hydraulic transport of highly abrasive slurries, including:
- Oil sands
- Ore and mineral tailings
- Solids passage capability is optimized through computer-designed shell and impeller hydraulics.
Electrical
- Power rating: 10,000 hp (7450 kW)

Design Features:
- Wear Parts:
- Slurry Diverter: Increases suction liner life by reducing particle recirculation.
- Impeller: Designed for wear-resistant operation in highly abrasive slurries, with heavy section clearing vanes to keep solids out of the nose gap.
- Replaceable Suction Liner: Facilitates internal inspection and minimizes wear part costs; can be rotated for extended life.
- Pump shell: "Tie Bolt Construction" design for safety and reliability in high-pressure applications.
- Efficiency:
- Lower Specific Speed Design: Large diameter impeller allows slower operation for better wear life and a wide range of flow conditions.
- Maintenance Friendly:
- Impeller Release Ring: Standard on all TBC pumps, a 3-piece segmented ring mounted between shaft sleeve and shaft shoulder, drastically reducing wet end change-out time.
- 2-piece suction plate design: For TBC 54 and larger pumps, an inner "Front Door" suction plate allows replacement of the suction liner and impeller without removing the outer suction plate.
- Reliability in Design:
- Pressure load against the shell is transferred to non-wearing side plates, held by large tie bolts.
- Shell and impeller hydraulics are computer-designed to optimize performance and wear, providing high suction capability and large solids passage.
- Materials:
- Constructed of abrasion-resistant white irons, ductile irons, and special alloys.
- Alternative wear liner materials: urethane and neoprene.
- Shaft Seals: TBC shaft seals, SpiralTrac™.
- Interchangeability: Various hydraulic design and material options can be used on the same mechanical end, allowing for easy modification to changing conditions.
Pump Selection: The datasheet includes a detailed table listing various pump configurations by:
- Assembly Number
- Nominal Size (in/mm)
- Free Passage (in/mm)
- Vane Number & Type
- Nominal Impeller Diameter (in/mm) See the official PDF for exact tabulated values.
