Performance Notes

Performance specifications are nominal values. Individual element permeate flows may vary ±15% from the values shown. Minimum chloride ion rejection is 99.2% at the stated test conditions. System performance should be predicted using KMS ROPRO® software, and operating data normalized and tracked using KMS NORMPRO® software.

Chemical Tolerance

  • Chlorine: Exposure to free chlorine or other oxidizing agents (e.g., permanganate, ozone, bromine, iodine) is not recommended. The TFC-FR membrane has a free chlorine tolerance of approximately 1,000 ppm-hours based on testing at 77°F (25°C), pH 8. This tolerance may be significantly reduced if catalyzing metals (e.g., iron) are present or if pH and/or temperature differ. Sodium metabisulfite (without catalysts like cobalt) is the preferred reducing agent. The TFC-FR membrane has a chloramine tolerance of approximately 60,000 ppm-hours in the absence of free chlorine, based on testing at 77°F (25°C), pH 8.
  • Cationic (Positively Charged) Polymers and Surfactants: TFC-FR membrane may be irreversibly fouled if exposed to cationic (positively charged) polymers or surfactants. Exposure to these chemicals during operation or cleaning is not recommended.
  • Lubricants: For element loading, use only the recommended silicone lubricant (or approved equivalent), water, or glycerin to lubricate O-rings and brine seals. Petroleum-based lubricants or vegetable-based oils may damage the element and void the warranty.
