Summary
Product Identification
The Oltremare LOW4 series consists of extra low energy, high productivity reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements designed for brackish water applications. They deliver consistent and continuous high performance for producing drinking water and industrial water. These elements are available in standard 2.5” and 4” spiral-wound designs.
Membrane Characteristics
- Membrane Type: Polyamide
- Stabilized Salt Rejection:
- 99% (for modules from 2514 to 4021)
- 99.2% (for module 4040)
- Minimum Salt Rejection:
- 98% (for modules from 2514 to 4021)
- 99.0% (for module 4040)

Test conditions: 500 ppm NaCl, 6.9 bar (100 psi), 25°C (77°F), 15% recovery, pH 6.5 - 7, 30 minutes operation. Flow rates will be no more than 15% below the values shown.
Operating Limits
- Maximum Operating Pressure:
- 41 bar (600 psi) for fiberglassed elements
- 20.7 bar (300 psi) for tape wrapped elements (Models from 2514 to 4040 can be both fiberglassed and tape wrapped)
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 45 °C (113 °F)
- Cleaning pH Range: 1.0 – 12.0
- Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm (Pretreatment is recommended for free chlorine removal to prevent damage to polyamide membranes, as oxidation damage is excluded from warranty).
- Maximum Pressure Drop: 0.7 bar (10 psi) per element; 4 bar (60 psi) per housing
- Maximum SDI₁₅: 5.0
- Maximum Turbidity: 1 NTU

Note: For male elements, "Dim. C" is the outer diameter. Male elements have a protruding permeate tube ("D" in diagrams). Dimension "D" is 30.5 mm (1.2 in) for modules from 2514 to 4021, and 26.7 mm (1.05 in) for the 4040 module.
General Guidelines
- Start-up: It is recommended to flush elements for 30 minutes at low pressure and discard the permeate before operation.
- Cleaning: Oltremare membrane elements require periodic cleaning to maintain proper operation and prevent damage. Refer to the Membrane Cleaning Guide for details.
- Storage: Proper storage of Oltremare membrane elements is essential to ensure operation and prevent damage. Refer to Element Storage Guides.
