UF 5

Engineering summary from PDF text extraction for UF 5. Verify every value with the OEM datasheet.

Summary

Product identification

The TRISEP® UF5 is a Polyethersulfone (PES) Ultrafiltration Membrane with a nominal molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of 5,000 Daltons. It is suited for process separations, particularly for protein concentration to high solids levels, where a tighter ultrafiltration membrane maximizes product yield. The UF5 membrane sheet is available in both dry and wet flat sheet rolls and is FDA compliant.

Membrane Characteristics

  • Membrane Chemistry: Polyethersulfone (PES)
  • Backing Material: Non-Woven Polyester
  • Nominal M.W.C.O. (Da): 5,000
  • Permeability: ≥ 12.3 LMH/bar (≥ 0.5 GFD/psi)
    • Test conditions for permeability: Clean water, 1.4 bar (20 psi), 25°C (77°F), 15% recovery, pH 8.0.
  • Thickness: 160 - 200 µm

Operating limits

  • pH Range: 1.0 – 12.0
  • Chlorine Tolerance: 200 ppm (for sanitization) at pH ≥ 10.5
  • Cleaning Temperature: Maximum 50°C (122°F) for 30 minutes (daily short-term cleaning).

Mechanical / Hydraulic

  • Standard Sizes:
    • Sample size: 305 mm x 1,016 mm (12 in x 40 in)
    • Nominal roll size: 305 m x 1,016 mm (1,000 ft x 40 in)
    • Custom lengths may be available on request.

Installation / Operation

  • Initial Flush: It is recommended to flush the membrane for 30 minutes and discard permeate during the flush prior to operation.

Storage

Membrane is shipped dry unless wet membrane is specifically requested.

  • Dry Membrane: Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Wet Membrane: Must remain sealed and refrigerated prior to use. Refer to "Membrane Storage Guide – Flat Sheet Membrane (TSG-O-011)" for more details.
