Summary
Product identification
The product is an X-Flow Compact 75G Helix Ultrafiltration membrane element.
- Article Code: 8181KQB99O
- Type: Helix Ultrafiltration membrane
- Description: 12 INCH 5.2 mm Helix Compact 75G
Applications
This membrane is suitable for:
- Pre-treatment RO and NF
- Surface water
- Drinking and process water production
- Recovery of sandfilter backwash water
- Effluent treatment
- Membrane bioreactor
- Wastewater treatment
- Treatment of oil-in-water emulsions
Operating limits
- Max. feed pressure: 600 kPa
- Max. permeate pressure: 600 kPa
- Feed-permeate differential pressure: -100..+250 kPa
- Max. temperature: 50 °C
- Process temperature: Do not exceed 50 °C. For mechanical damage prevention, avoid sudden temperature changes, especially decreases. Bring the module back to ambient operating temperature slowly (typical 1 °C/min).
Mechanical / hydraulic
- Hydraulic membrane diameter: 5.2 mm
- Membrane area: 75 m²
- Module length: 3070 mm
- Permeate position: 290 mm
- Permeate length: 250 mm
- Feed connection ID: 300 mm
- Permeate connection ID: 65 mm
- Crossflow flow rate: 121.6 x v [m³/h] (where v = superficial velocity in m/s)
- Pressure-drop across module (laminar flow): 1.2 x L₀ x v [kPa] (where L₀ = module length in m)
- Pressure-drop across module (turbulent flow): 3.6 x L₀ x v¹·⁷⁵ [kPa] (where L₀ = module length in m)
Membrane Characteristics
- Material: Hydrophilic tubular polyvinylidene fluoride membrane cast on a polyester carrier
- Structure: Asymmetric
- Mean pore size: 30 nm
- Key features: Developed for use in large-scale processes for water purification, high performance, very good anti-fouling behavior. Elements can be backflushed for efficient cleaning, resulting in a higher average product flux.
Materials of Construction
- Housing: Glass fibre reinforced epoxy, drinking water quality
- Potting: EP resin
- Membrane:
- Material composed of polyvinylidene fluoride
- Carrier is a composite polyester woven/non woven
Chemical Resistance
The resistance of the membrane to solvents depends on actual process conditions; the indications below are guidelines only.
- Acids, pH >2: +
- Bases, pH <11: +
- Organic esters, ketones, ethers: --
- Aliphatic alcohols: ++
- Aliphatic hydrocarbons: ++
- Halogenated hydrocarbons: ++
- Aromatic hydrocarbons: +
- Polar organic solvents: --
- Oils: ++
Cleaning Chemical Resistance
Recommended cleaning agents and conditions:
- NaOCl (active chlorine): 500 ppm max.
- H₂O₂: 1000 ppm max.
- NaOH: pH ≤ 11
- Nitric acid: pH ≥ 1
- Phosphoric acid: pH ≥ 1
- EDTA: pH ≤ 11
- Citric acid
- Enzymatic compounds
- During cleaning and/or disinfection, it is recommended to keep the pH between 1 and 11 and not to exceed a temperature of 40 °C.
Storage
New membrane modules are supplied in an aqueous preservation solution of glycerine (20wt%) and sodium metabisulfite (1wt%).
- Storage conditions: Store in a dry, normally ventilated place, away from heat, ignition sources, and direct sunlight, between 0 and 40 °C. Do not subject to freezing temperatures.
- Shelf life: Maximum 6 months for unused modules in unopened packaging under correct storage conditions.
- After use: UF membrane modules must be stored wet at all times.
- Short-term shutdowns (1-7 days): A daily backwash with UF permeate quality water for 30 seconds at 250, following a standard Chemical Enhanced Backwash (CEB), should be adequate for bacteria control.
- Long-term storage (>7 days): Membranes should be disinfected after a CEB. A 0.5% sodium metabisulfite solution can be used. In both short and long-term storage, modules should remain filled with storage solution.
