Summary
Product identification
The RX-300 0.9UFC is an ultrafiltration pilot module.
- Product: X-flow RX-300 0.9UFC Ultrafiltration Membrane
- Article Code: 1051BL895A
- Applications: Production of process and potable water; filtration of surface water, potable water, and WWTP effluent.
- Mode of Operation:
- Feed-and-bleed with a minor crossflow
- Dead-end mode with regular backwash (permeate only) and chemically enhanced backwash.
- Materials of Construction:
- Housing: PSF
- Potting: EP resin
- Membrane: PES/PVP
Operating limits
- Max. system pressure:
- 800 kPa [116 psi] at 20 °C
- 600 kPa [86 psi] at 40 °C
- 400 kPa [58 psi] at 60 °C
- Max. transmembrane pressure:
- 300 kPa [43 psi] at 0-30 °C
- 200 kPa [29 psi] at 30-60 °C
- Max. backflush pressure:
- 300 kPa [43 psi] at 0-30 °C
- 150 kPa [21.5 psi] at 30-60 °C
- Max. temperature: 60 °C [140 °F]
- Temperature change caution: To avoid mechanical damage, do not subject the membrane module or element to sudden temperature changes, particularly decreasing temperatures. Bring the module or element back to ambient operating temperature slowly (typical value 1 °C/min). Failure to adhere to this guideline can result in irreparable damage.
Mechanical / hydraulic
- Membrane diameter: 0.9 mm [35.4 mil]
- Membrane area: 0.08 m² [0.86 ft²]
- Element length L0: 300 mm [11.8 Inch]
- Element outer diameter: 23.9 mm [0.94 Inch]
- Flow rate: 0.27 x v [1.19 x v] where 'v' is superficial velocity in m/s [ft/s]
- Pressure-drop across module:
- at 1 m/s: 11 kPa [1.6 psi]
- at 2 m/s: 24 kPa [3.5 psi]
Storage
- New modules: Can be stored as supplied in the original packaging. Elements contain an aqueous preservation solution of glycerine (20wt%) and sodium metabisulfite (1wt%).
- Storage conditions: Store in a dry, normally ventilated place, away from sources of heat, ignition, and direct sunlight.
- Storage temperature: Between 0 and 40 °C. Do not subject to any freezing temperatures.
- Shelf life: Maximum of 6 months for unused modules in unopened packaging under correct storage conditions after transfer of ownership.
- After use: UF membrane modules must be stored wet at all times.
- Short-term shutdowns (1 – 7 days): A daily backwash with UF permeate quality water for 30 seconds at 215 lmh should be adequate for bacteria control. Modules must be cleaned by a standard Chemical Enhanced Backwash (CEB) before the shutdown period.
- Long-term storage (> 7 days): Membranes should be disinfected after a CEB. A 0.5% sodium metabisulfite solution can be used for disinfection. In both short and long term storage, modules should remain filled with storage solution.
Backwash guidelines
- Backwash water should be free of particulates and should be of permeate quality or better.
- Backwash pumps should preferably be made of non-corroding materials (e.g., plastic or stainless steel).
- If compressed air is used to pressurize backwash water, do not allow a two-phase air/water mixture to enter the element.
