Summary

Product identification

This document describes the X-flow S-14 microfiltration membrane module, also referred to as 8” S-14 FSFC PSU. It is designed for the clarification of beer and operates in a feed and bleed mode with crossflow, regular backwash, and Clean-In-Place (CIP).

The module is available in two types, differing by sealing, end cap material, and clamp type:

  • Type 1 (Article Code: 2451RB452NG): Features a Polysulfone (PSF) End Cap and uses a DIN tri-clamp.
  • Type 2 (Article Code: 2451RB452NG2): Features a stainless steel End Cap and uses a TC-100 clamp.

Membrane Characteristics:

  • X-Flow B.V. product code: 1.5 MF05XL M2
  • Composition: Hydrophilic blend of polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethersulfone (PES/PVP)
  • Structure: Asymmetric/microporous
  • Performance: High performance with very good anti-fouling behavior

  • Europe: Tested according to EU regulation EC 1935/2004 and EC 10/2011

Handling and Maintenance

Storage:

  • Dry membrane modules should be stored in a dry, normally ventilated place, away from sources of heat, ignition, and direct sunlight.
  • Store between 0 and 40 °C at a relative humidity below 80% in their original packaging.

Start-Up:

  • New modules should be cleaned during a complete CIP before start-up with beer.

Cleaning:

  • Cleaning fluids should be of permeate quality or better.
  • Cleaning pumps should be made of non-corroding materials.
  • The use of lubricant based on fat or oil should be avoided.
  • Operating modules at any combination of maximum limits of pH, chemical concentration, pressure, or temperature during cleaning or production may influence the membrane and/or module lifetime.
