Summary
Product identification
The TRISEP® TS80 is a versatile nanofiltration (NF) membrane element designed for high solute rejection of both salts and uncharged organic solutes. It operates at lower pressures than reverse osmosis membranes, typically around 100 psi, and is considered a "softening" membrane in many water purification applications. The TS80 membrane is also available in other element designs for industrial process applications.
Membrane Characteristics
- Membrane Type: Polyamide
- Typical NaCl rejection: 80%
- Stabilized MgSO₄ Rejection (%): 99.2%
- Minimum MgSO₄ Rejection (%): 98.5%
Operating limits
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 41 bar (600 psi)
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 45°C (113°F)
- Cleaning pH Range: 1.0 – 12.0
- Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm
- Maximum Pressure Drop: 1 bar (15 psi) per element; 4 bar (60 psi) per housing
- Maximum SDI₁₅: 5.0
- Maximum Turbidity: 1 NTU
Note on Chlorine: Pretreatment is recommended for the removal of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents to prevent damage to membranes. Oxidizing agents, such as free chlorine, in contact with polyamide membranes may result in shortened operating life or membrane failure. Such oxidation damage is excluded from warranty.
Product Specifications / Mechanical / Hydraulic
All models on this sheet have fiberglass outer wrap. The TRISEP® 8040-TS80-TXFA has parallel feed spacers; all other models have diamond-shaped feed spacers. All models include anti-telescoping devices (ATDs) attached to the ends of the element and one brine seal. All 4040 and 8040 models include one interconnector.

Test conditions: Permeate flow rates are based on 2,000 ppm MgSO₄, 7.6 bar (110 psi), 25°C (77°F), 15% recovery, pH 8.0, 30 minutes operation. Flow rates will be no more than 15% below the values shown. Note on Dimensions:
- "Dim. C" for Female elements is the Inner Diameter.
- "Dim. C" for Male elements is the Outer Diameter.
- Male elements have a protruding permeate tube ("D" in diagram) which is 25.4 mm (1.0 in).
Start-up, Cleaning & Storage
- Start-up: Flush elements for 30 minutes at low pressure and discard permeate during the flush prior to operation. Refer to the Element Start-Up Guide – System Start-Up (TSG-O-005) for detailed procedures.
- Cleaning: Elements must be cleaned periodically. Refer to the Membrane Cleaning Guide – Water Application Elements (TSG-C-001) for detailed procedures and temperature/pH limits.
- Storage: Elements must be stored appropriately. Refer to Element Storage Guides (TSG-O-009 & TSG-O-010) for proper storage procedures.
