Summary

Product identification

The R21 0.83UFC is an ultrafiltration module, ARTICLE CODE: 1521BL895E, used for the production of process water. Typical applications include filtration of surface water and WWTP effluent.

Membrane Characteristics:

  • Hydrophilic membrane composed of a blend of polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethersulfone (PES/PVP).
  • Nominal pore size: 20 nm.
  • Structure: asymmetric/microporous.
  • High performance and very good anti-fouling behavior.
  • Effective membrane area: 3.8 m² [40.9 ft²].
  • Membrane diameter: 0.83 mm [32.7 mil].

Operating limits

  • Max. system pressure: 600 kPa [86 psi] @20°C
  • Max. transmembrane pressure: 300 kPa [43 psi]
  • Max. backflush pressure: 300 kPa [43 psi]
  • Temperature range: 0 - 60 °C [32 - 140 °F]
  • Maximum temperature change: 3 °C/min
  • pH during filtration: > 2 and < 12
  • pH during cleaning: > 1 and < 13

Feed water

The mode of operation is feed-and-bleed with a minor crossflow or dead-end mode with regular backwash (permeate only) and chemically enhanced backwash. Backwash water should be free of particulates and of UF permeate quality or better.

Product water

  • Typical permeate quality: SDI<3, turbidity <0.1 NTU.
  • Membrane filtration provides 99.9999% (LOG6) reduction of bacteria (Pseudomonas diminuta) and 99.99% (LOG 4) reduction of virus (MS2 colifages) by mechanical means.

Mechanical / hydraulic

Module Specifications:

  • Module length A: 1130 mm [44.5 inch]
  • Permeate length B: 71 mm [2.8 inch]
  • Permeate position C: 90 mm [3.5 inch]
  • Feed connection diameter D: 75 mm [3.0 inch]
  • Permeate connection diameter E: 20 mm [0.8 inch]

Materials of Construction:

  • Housing: PVC-C
  • Potting: Epoxy
  • Membrane: PES/PVP

Process Characteristics (water, 20 °C):

  • Hydraulic membrane diameter: 0.83 mm [32.7 mil]
  • Crossflow flow rate (*): 3.4 x v m³/h [15.0 x v gpm] (where v is superficial velocity in m/s [ft/s])
  • Pressure-drop across module at 1 m/s: 40 kPa [5.80 psi]
  • Pressure-drop across module at 2 m/s: 84 kPa [12.18 psi]

  • Phosphoric Acid: ++
  • Acetic Acid: ++
  • Citric Acid: ++

Bases:

  • Sodium Hydroxide: ++

Oxidants:

  • Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl):
    • Typical: 200 ppm, at ≤ 40 °C at ≥ pH 10
    • Maximum: 500 ppm
    • Cumulative: 250,000 ppm hours; ≥ pH 10
  • Chlorine Dioxide (ClO₂):
    • Typical: 1 ppm, at ≤ 40 °C
    • Maximum: 2 ppm
    • Cumulative: 90,000 ppm hours; pH 11
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂):
    • Typical: 200 ppm, at ≤ 40 °C
    • Maximum: 500 ppm
    • Cumulative: 350,000 ppm hours

Combined Oxidant Exposure: The total combined exposure for Sodium Hypochlorite and Chlorine Dioxide is calculated as: Combined exposure (NaOCl + ClO₂) = 2.6 x Exposure to ClO₂ (in ppm hours) + Exposure to NaOCl (in ppm hours) < 250,000 ppm hours. Note: Exposure limits are affected by temperature, pH, and the presence of metals. It is advised to reduce membrane exposure to oxidizing agents to a minimum and preserve membranes free of any oxidizing agent when the plant is stopped.

Certifications

  • ISO 9001
  • EPA Est. No. 090374-NLD-001

Storage

New membrane modules are supplied with an aqueous preservation solution of glycerine (20wt%) and sodium metabisulfite (1wt%). Modules should be stored in a dry, normally ventilated place, away from heat, ignition sources, and direct sunlight. Storage temperature should be between 0 and 40 °C. The membrane shelf life is a maximum of 6 months from the date the modules are announced ready for delivery ex works Pentair warehouse.
